The manual describes the difference in the operation of the frequency/adjust knobs in single vs multi band mode as lo/hi 'shelving' as opposed to lo/hi 'pre-limiter gain' - are these not the same thing?

In both cases it seems the the low/high frequencies set the range of a middle band, and the lo/hi adjust knobs then boost or cut the top/bottom bands respectively, the same as a simple multiband EQ.

And in both cases the output is limited by the Ceiling+Knee, so I don't understand the use of the term 'pre-limiter' to distinguish between the modes of operation.

Can anyone explain?
