Hey All,

Have been thinking of getting the Master Q recently -- looks like a fantastic plugin. How would you best describe its character? Is it really smooth and analogue, does it colour a lot, or is it more transparent?

Any general stuff much appreciated,

cheers,

G

The MasterQ has no character. It is designed to be as transparent as possible.
Some customer's say that it is sounding very analog probably because of its transparency and lack of typical phasing problems.
Take your time and check a demo version so you will know by your self how does it sound.

Regards,

MasterQ is quite transparent and yet it is by no means thin - unlike many other EQ plugs....

Very nice EQ. Best EQ plug I have used so far...

I find it really good, definately a substitute for the long lost Q-Metric. The only issue I have is that it is ( on Mac anyway ) breathtakingly CPU hungry, more than a reverb even. No complaints about the EQ though, it is great. For me though I use it as it's name implies, on 2 track masters. It is too CPU intensive to use more than 1 instance of it on a dual G4.

it's cpu hungry, yes, and as such it's only usable in mastering... maybe some day it gets more efficient and it can be used in mixdown also.

i have high hopes of the rtas version. it seems rev.b versions are always better than first ones ;\)

I run all the instances I need (3-4) along with a couple of Easyverbs, Vintagewarmers and Delay pack plugs when mixing (on a PC P4/1800/1024). I think that Easyverb is quite CPU-hungry, even more than some convolving plugs (but very well worth the load most of the time). I'd say that 1 Easyverb = 2 MasterQ. 1 MasterQ = 5% CPU in my machine.

I just upgraded my PC from a PIII 1ghz to an Athlon XP 3000+ and I'm actually having no problem using MasterQ as a tracking EQ anymore. As to the sound, it is indeed fat and transparent, though you can use the saturation types to add color as you need it. Really just a great, great EQ.
